M & J Outdoor Communications, as it exists today, dates back to October, 1993, when M.D. Johnson, an Ohio-born transient and gypsy journalist met Julia Walling, Evergreen State native and avid hunter/angler, while he was attending a national writers convention in Portland, Oregon. Immediately attracted to this girl of the outdoors – who, by the way, had 25 years of photography and darkroom experience on her resume’ – Johnson packed up and moved to rural Washington.
Fourteen years and countless road and air miles later, the couple’s resume’ includes six full-length books, hundreds of magazine articles, thousands of published images, and personal speaking engagements from Seattle, Washington, to Columbus, Ohio, and many venues along the way.
“Our goal,” says M.D., “is to bring the outdoors to you realistically, passionately, and with as much experience and honesty as we and our colleagues can muster.”
